Research: Enterococcus faecalis is a causative agent of periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) following orthopedic surgeries and poses a severe threat to patients as E. faecalis can form robust biofilms thereby promoting their inherent resistance to antimicrobials. This threat warrants the need to generate a more comprehensive understanding of E. faecalis PJI manifestation to guide future innovative treatment opportunities for E. faecalis PJIs. My work aims to identify genetic determinants required for E. faecalis PJI by utilizing comparative genomic analysis of E. faecalis PJI clinical isolates along with assessing the biologicalrelevance of these genetic elements by studying their function during infection of the periprosthetic joint region.
