Research: Tissue resident memory T cells (Trm) are confined to individual non-lymphoid organs, where they survey the local environment for their cognate antigen. My research broadly evaluates the mechanisms dictating Trm establishment, maintenance, and function over the lifespan of the organism. I specifically investigate how Trm establishment, differentiation, and function changes as organisms age. Additionally, while Trm have traditionally been considered terminally differentiated, recent reports have suggested that a subset of Trm may exit their host tissue and rejoin the circulating T cell compartment. My research investigates the prevalence, tissue ontogeny, and function of these “ex-Trm.”
